The Market Theatre Laboratory was founded in 1989 by the late Barney Simon and John Kani with seed money from the Rockefeller Foundation. The Laboratory is the Training and Development wing of the Market Theatre.
The Market Theatre Laboratory receives its major funding from The Swedish/South Africa Culture Fund through the Stockholms Stadsteater Sweden.
